Wayne and Kathy Miller take their chili seriously. As reigning amateur champions of the 49er Festival’s traditional Chili Cook-Off, they’re a force to be reckoned with when there’s a reputation to uphold. So when we presented the idea of Taste of Tuolumne to the Millers, they fairly leapt at the chance to serve up their award-winning chili alongside some of the finest chefs in Tuolumne County.
Chili lovers take heart! Do not bemoan the loss of the chili cook-off. You can get Wayne & Kathy’s fabulous chili again this year as one of the 49er Festival’s Taste of Tuolumne offerings. For just $1 a taste, you can choose between a wide range of culinary delights created right here in our county, or sample them all. And go back for more of your favorites.
There’s no competition here. With four previous cook-offs under their belts, Wayne just grins when Kathy admits, “He just loves coming out and hearing how much people love his chili.” Since the 49er Festival begins on the first day of hunting season, we won’t see Wayne at this year’s event. Kathy and their friends will be serving up his delicious venison-and-beef chili while Wayne brings home a big juicy buck for next year’s event.
Wayne Miller owns Groveland-based MWK Masonry.
