Chili Chili Good Gravy! Tastes of Home

Just in time for an early Fall, two great chilies are on the Taste of Tuolumne table at the 49er Festival. Firefall Ranch Resorts’ Chef Caleb Coffman and the Groveland Youth Center are  whipping up their personal favorites. Set your taste buds on “High” for two delicious and very different Tastes of Chili. 

Back for a second year is Groveland Youth Center with Youth Director Donica Graf Schulke’s family-developed recipe dubbed “Sweet Georgia Brown Chili.” A crowd favorite last year, Sweet Georgia Brown gets it name from the beef, bacon, and beans sweetened with a dark brown sugar. 

Thanks to Tuolumne County, Groveland Youth Center is a great after-school and weekend hangout for kids. And they make great chili!

Firefall’s Chef Caleb is preparing a perfect contrast to Groveland Youth Center’s Taste: Hatch Elk Chili with Pão de Queijo. It’s Hatch Chili with ground elk served with cheesy Brazilian bread bites…a rich and savory combo with just the right “kick.” 

Chef’s second Taste is his own creation, and a brilliant one it is. Reminiscent of the “good old days,” Caleb’s Red eye Gravy over Cornbread will take you back to family meals around the table in a warm and cozy kitchen.
